Official Rules
CANTERRA SEEDS Rooted in the Prairies Project Official Rules and Regulations
1. No purchase necessary:
A purchase will not increase your chance of being chosen. The CANTERRA SEEDS Rooted in the Prairies Project (the “Project”) is void where prohibited by law.
2. Project Entry Period:
Entries for each awarded donation must be received between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
3. Project Administration:
The Project is made possible by CANTERRA SEEDS. The Project will be managed, and all gifts administered, by CANTERRA SEEDS, 201-1475 Chevrier Blvd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 1Y7.
4. Eligibility:
Eligible Entrants must be the age of majority in his or her province of residence in one of the 11 CANTERRA SEEDS territories located within Northeastern BC (Peace River District), Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba and be actively engaged in farming. Entrants are limited to one entry per qualified farmer.
In order to receive a donation (“Donation”) under this Project, the organization (“Organization”) selected by an entrant must be either:
- a tax-exempt public charity, meaning that it must be recognized by the Canada Revenue Agency as tax-exempt and have a charity registration number, or
- a non-profit organization, meaning an association organized and operated exclusively for social welfare, civic improvement, pleasure, sport, recreation, or any other purpose except profit (e.g., a club, society, or association).
Any Organization that discriminates based on race, creed, ethnicity, religion, sex, age, or national origin is not eligible to receive a Donation. Sections 6 and 7 of these Official Rules include other requirements regarding Gifts.
The recipient Organization must be engaged in charitable work and operate in the community or surrounding area where the Entrant resides and not have any government (local, provincial or federal), religious or political affiliations. However, not-for-profit agencies such as volunteer fire departments, schools, libraries etc. are eligible.
5. How to Enter:
No purchase necessary to enter. Entries may only be made according to the procedures described in these Official Rules.
To enter the Project online, visit www.canterra.com/rooted-project and submit an entry by using the online form. All entrants are required to complete all required registration information (including, without limitation, your name, address and other contact information). All entries must be completed within the Project Entry Periods to be eligible to win. All submissions become the property of CANTERRA SEEDS and will not be acknowledged or returned.
Entries that do not comply with these Official Rules will be disqualified. CANTERRA SEEDS reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry at any time which, in its opinion, is offensive, contains unsuitable material, threatens the safety or well-being of any entrant, or if it is determined that the entrant has not complied with these Official Rules. Limit one entry per Eligible Entrant. Entries in excess of this limit are void. To be valid, each entry must provide all information requested.
6. Donations:
Up to $25,000 CAD will be distributed through monetary donations in total. In-kind amplified donations are limited to the availability of seed. Number of recipients chosen will depend on the amount of donation that is requested per chosen entry. Chosen entries will be selected from all eligible entries received within the Project Entry Periods. All monetary Donations will be distributed to the Organization via cheque by CANTERRA SEEDS. The Donation must be used by the winning Organization to improve local communities and organizations in the area in which the winning entrant resides or farms as designated on the entry application. Odds of being chosen depend on the total number of eligible entries received, the quality of the application and the nomination matches the values of CANTERRA SEEDS. CANTERRA SEEDS reserves the right to cancel or amend the Project at any time. All details about the Project and the Donations not specified in these Official Rules will be determined by CANTERRA SEEDS at its sole discretion. No entrant may receive more than one Donation.
If a winning entrant decides to “amplify” their Donation, CANTERRA SEEDS will provide CANTERRA SEEDS seed to the winning entrant to plant in the 2024 season instead of providing a cheque to the winning Organization. The winning entrant is responsible for planting, growing and harvesting the donated CANTERRA SEEDS seed. Once the seed has been marketed, the winning entrant is required to provide CANTERRA SEEDS a total of the harvested amount, minus inputs, to be donated to the winning Organization. The winning entrant is responsible for delivering the cheque of the total amount to the winning Organization and providing CANTERRA SEEDS proof of this transaction.
The Donations are not transferable. No substitution of a Donation, or any portion thereof, is allowed, except at the sole discretion of CANTERRA SEEDS. A Donation has no retail value, and there is no income to be reported to the winning entrant for tax purposes. The winning entrant will not be able to obtain an income tax deduction as a result of the Donation made to the Organization.
7. Use of a Donation:
Donations may not be used for any of the following: (a) individual aid or personal support; (b) underwriting deficits; (c) fraternal, labour or veterans’ organizations, unless the project benefits the general public; (d) benefits, dinners or advertisements; (e) religious, politically partisan, or similar groups; (f) endowments; (g) activities that directly support marketing programs; or (h) projects in which CANTERRA SEEDS or any of its respective affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors or employees has a financial interest, or from which any of these entities could derive a financial benefit. Determination of whether the proposed use of funds meets the criteria described herein shall be made at CANTERRA SEEDS’ sole discretion.
8. Recipient Selection:
On or before April 11, 2024, CANTERRA SEEDS will select "amplified" entries to receive funding in the form of CANTERRA SEEDS seed. Chosen recipients will be notified by email or phone by April 18, 2024.
On or before December 31, 2024, CANTERRA SEEDS will select "monetary" entries to receive funding in the form of a cheque. Available funds will be given out through the year, as needed.
9. Total Value:
The total value of all monetary Donations to be awarded is $25,000 CAD. In-kind donations ("amplified") will be calculated separately.
