Knull Family names 5th annual winner of Brian Knull Memorial Scholarship, Adriana Van Tryp

Five years ago, CANTERRA SEEDS and the Knull Family organized an annual memorial scholarship under the name of beloved Brian Knull, former Territory Manager at CANTERRA SEEDS.

This year’s winner of the $1,500 prize is fourth-year student, Adriana Van Tryp.

Adriana has been studying for a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business Management at the University of Alberta (U of A) and is looking forward to the many career choices she has when she graduates.

Even though she was always surrounded by agriculture growing up on the farm, Adriana’s love for the industry started when she began working over the summers. “I was around 16 years old when I first fell in love with agriculture; the community within it, the family that is built within the industry, and the challenges and opportunities that exist,” says Adriana.

Dedicated to furthering her pursuit of higher education, Adriana worked hard in high school to be accepted to her university of choice, including completing the Green Certificate Program in field crop production. And she hasn’t stopped there since getting into the U of A. Adriana planned the MacGregor Smith Public Speaking Competition in her faculty in 2021 and has also been a member of the U of A Agriculture Club for four years while also sitting on the executive team for two of those years.

“Every day and every year in my degree so far, I have been provided the opportunity to be surrounded by like-minded individuals who are also excited and driven to learn and do more within the agricultural industry,” mentions Adriana.

The drive Adriana has will get her far in her future endeavors, and CANTERRA SEEDS and the Knull Family are proud to help her along the way.

Brian Knull’s legacy continues in the Alberta ag community with the Brian Knull Memorial Scholarship. CANTERRA SEEDS enjoys the time of year where we get to encourage a youth to pursue a career in agriculture – a place Brian is still greatly missed.
