CANTERRA SEEDS partners with Syngenta Canada on Pelta Technology

Earlier this month, Syngenta Canada announced the launch of Pelta™ seed pelleting technology for canola. CANTERRA SEEDS is proud to partner with Syngenta Canada to exclusively launch Pelta technology on their canola hybrids.

“CANTERRA SEEDS prides itself on being able to identify the needs of its farmer customers and quickly find the right solutions for them.” says David Hansen, president & CEO of CANTERRA SEEDS. “The exclusive partnership with Syngenta and Pelta technology gives our customers the option to get the most out of their canola.”

Pelta technology is available on three CANTERRA SEEDS canola hybrids for the 2022 growing season:

  • CS3000 TF – a mid-maturing TruFlex™ canola with Roundup Ready® Technology hybrid that boasts high yield potential, straight cut potential and unique blackleg and second generation clubroot resistance.
  • CS4000 LL – a mid-maturing, LibertyLink® canola hybrid that features blackleg and clubroot resistance, strong standability and excellent straight cut performance.
  • CS2600 CR-T – an early-maturing TruFlex™ canola with Roundup Ready® Technology hybrid with enhanced clubroot resistance and straight cut potential.

Syngenta Canada launches new Pelta seed pelleting technology for canola

  • New Pelta technology helps optimize seed size and uniformity, enabling improved singulation planter performance

  • Better planter performance enables more accurate seed placement for increased seed survivability and stand establishment

Guelph, ON – Syngenta Canada Inc., is pleased to announce the launch of Pelta™, a new seed pelleting technology that helps reduce the risk and guesswork around seeding canola.

The natural variability in canola seed size can cause several issues, such as seeding misses, and double- or triple-seeded canola, which impact emergence.

“Canola is one of the most important and profitable crops in the Prairies, but often comes with high upfront input costs,” explains Karen Ullman, Seedcare Product Lead with Syngenta Canada. “That’s why it’s so important for growers to get the full genetic potential out of every seed – and Pelta technology helps do just that.”

Pelta optimizes seed size and uniformity for more accurate seed placement, greater survivability, and stronger stand establishment. Enabling accurate seed placement removes one variable at seeding time and helps maximize canola hybrid performance and yield potential. Plants that are seeded accurately develop more uniformly and don’t compete for resources.

Consistent seed size allows for the use of singulation planter technology, effectively transforming canola from a solid-seeded crop into a row crop.

Syngenta research trials have shown that Pelta, combined with singulation planting technology, improved canola emergence by up to 40 percent.

“We are proud to be offering a solution that provides a less stressful and more effective start to the season,” says Shad Milligan, Seedcare Technical Lead with Syngenta Canada. “Our Pelta trial results are strong, and we are excited to get this technology onto more canola seed.”

Pelta technology is offered in combination with the most comprehensive canola seed treatment package available: Helix® Saltro® plus Fortenza® Advanced for control of flea beetles and cutworms, plus a broad spectrum of seedling diseases, including protection from air-borne blackleg infection.
