Earlier today, CANTERRA SEEDS officially launched CS2000, a new clubroot resistant hybrid. While there are a number of clubroot resistant hybrids currently on the market, CS2000 offers something completely new for growers.

Do you know that the VB behind varieties such as AC™ Conquer VB and Goodeve VB stands for varietal blend? This indicates to a farmer the seed he is buying contains 10% of a blended variety, which is a susceptible midge refuge. The refuge is very important to make sure the midge have something else to feed off of, so there is no breakdown in the midge tolerance gene in the variety.

Pedigreed seed has varietal purity. This means all the benefits developed by the plant breeder are retained as the seed is multipled - from the small abount of Breeder seed, to the large volume of Certified seed. Certified seed is the starting point of a successful crop.

On Monday, December 9th, CANTERRA SEEDS was privileged to host Federal Agriculture Minister, Mr. Gerry Ritz, as he announced plans for the Agriculture Growth Act, Bill C-18. The Act includes many updates to regulations that will streamline the industry, including reforms to Plant Breeders Rights. This will finally bring UPOV ’91 into place in Canada.
